A Happy 101st Birthday For Rita

Staff and residents at Sutton Lodge Bupa Care Home in Weybridge came together to celebrate a socially distanced birthday party for a resident’s 101st birthday.

Rita Clarkson turned 101 on 23rd July and enjoyed a fabulous homemade birthday cake, a room filled with cards and balloons. With lockdown measures still being in place, Rita was thrilled to receive 87 cards and messages from the local community which helped make her day extra special.

When asked about her birthday celebrations, Rita said: “I had a wonderful day and thank everyone for their good wishes. The staff and residents here at Sutton Lodge really made me feel special. I’m so overwhelmed by all the messages.”

Rita has been a resident at Sutton Lodge Bupa Care Home for the past nine years, moving from Twickenham – where she grew up and spent her life working as a civil servant in the Ministry of Labour – now the Department for Work and Pensions. An avid musician, she enjoys playing and teaching others the piano in her spare time.

When asked about the secret to her long life, Rita said: “Having lots of friends, staying out of trouble, and not sitting in the sun too much!”

Home Manager, Karen Raggett, concluded: “We had a lovely day celebrating Rita’s 101st birthday. It was great to see our local come together and send cards and messages for this momentous milestone. Rita is a remarkable lady and we’re so glad we were able to mark her special day.”
