New Home For Elmbridge & Runnymede Talking Newspaper

Elmbridge & Runnymede Talking Newspaper Moving To New Haw Community Centre
Readers will recall that, after losing their studio in the Weybridge Hospital fire in July last year, the Talking Newspaper was offered accommodation at the Orchard Centre in Chertsey, thanks to the efforts of Runnymede Borough councillors. Sadly, they learnt in June that they were informed that the room was required for Borough Council staff.
After weeks of searching for and viewing premises in both Elmbridge and Runnymede, Hon. Secretary, Alison Dacomb, announced this week that negotiations were being finalised to rent accommodation at New Haw Community Centre. It is hoped that the new studio will be available within a few weeks.
“It has been a difficult time for us all”, she said. “Our volunteers have worked hard to find alternative accommodation and we are grateful to the local councillors who have supported us. It is likely that there may be a short break in our service of a weekly digest to our listeners, as our last recordings from Chertsey will be the week ending 18th August, but we hope that if all goes well we should be able to resume recording by within a fortnight.”
If you have difficulty reading and wish to be kept in touch with local news from Elmbridge and Runnymede or know someone who does, please ring our Helpline on 01784 435622. We also need volunteers to help in the production of the recordings, so please ring the same number if you would like to learn more.
