Elmbridge Mayor Supports Local Charity Elmbridge Mencap
Elmbridge Mayor’s Charity Launch
Following her election as Mayor of Elmbridge at the Annual Meeting of the Council on Wednesday 15 May 2019, Councillor Mary Sheldon held her charity launch on Thursday 16 May. Councillor Mary Sheldon has chosen to support Elmbridge Mencap.
The launch was held at Burview Hall, Walton on Thames, a purpose built, comprehensively equipped building, owned by Walton Charity, and run by Elmbridge Mencap.
Elmbridge Mencap is a local charity focused on supporting children and adults with learning disabilities as well as their parents and carers. This support is delivered by way of leisure activities, social clubs, family fun days, film nights and other activities, including use of the sensory rooms, at Burview Hall.
The Mayor said “In my Mayoral year, I aim to help Elmbridge Mencap increase their specialist facilities for the benefit of more people in the Borough by developing a piece of derelict land into a Sensory Garden, to provide a wonderful outdoor experience for children, adults and the elderly, including those with autism, dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease as well as those with learning disabilities”
Amongst others the launch was attended by representatives from local businesses, Sarah Selvanathan, Deputy Chief Executive of Elmbridge Borough Council, Jean Rigden, Founder of Elmbridge Mencap, John Reeves, Chairman of Trustees and volunteers from Elmbridge Mencap and Elmbridge Councillors
