Walton and Weybridge Film Society - Movies at Cecil Hepworth Playhouse
Hilarious tale of a lone Icelandic eco-warrior.
A gem from an unexpected source.

Film Synopsis

PLAYED very much for comedy, but with an underlying ecological theme, committed lone ecowarrior Halla, normally a choir director, sets out to disrupt Iceland’s burgeoning aluminium industry to prevent it ruining the countryside. Her methods are original, as are her efforts to evade capture – the authorities continually picking on an unfortunate tourist as their prime suspect.

The comedy is very offbeat, akin to ‘Rams’ another film from Iceland we have shown to great acclaim, with the background music delivered in a highly idiosyncratic and entertaining way.

Halla has a simultaneous brush with authority in connection with her long-held ambition to adopt a child from Ukraine. Again, unorthodox measures are employed to complete a wholly delightful and amusing film. KW

Film Notes

The film was Iceland’s entry to the 2018 Oscars and Golden Globes 2019.

About Our Film Society
