Lady Bird – November Movie at Walton & Weybridge Film Society
Wed November 13th 2019: 8pm
Director: Greta Gerwig USA, 2017, 94 mins, English language, colour.
Leading players: Saoirse Ronan (Ladybird), Laurie Mitchell (mother), Tracy Letts (father).
A CALIFORNIAN High School student desperate to escape her home town of Sacramento to study on the East Coast, finds her roots in the city are far deeper than she could have imagined in Greta Gerwig’s bittersweet coming of age tale, Lady bird.
Christopher Mc Pherson, who calls herself Lady bird, is applying for colleges while attending a Catholic School. She wants to go to New York but her mother wants her to apply to in-state colleges.
The pained relationship between mother and daughter is the real heart of the movie and is tied up with class and money too.
The family are broke and the father out of work but Lady bird rejects her life and future ahead to apply in secret to expensive colleges in New York and enrages her mother when she finds out. BD
The popularity of the film promoted a newfound tourism interest in both walking and running tours of the Sacramento locations showcased in the film.
About Our Film Society
We meet at roughly three-weekly intervals on Wednesday evenings, commencing at 8pm at The Amanda Smith Theatre, St George’s College, Addlestone to watch well regarded (mostly recent) films that have probably not been shown in our local cinemas.
Refreshments are provided without charge in a side room after each show and film club members are invited to discuss their reactions to the movie with the Committee and other members.
If you live in Walton or Weybridge or close to this area (for example Hersham, Shepperton, Cobham, Esher), why not join us?
If you would like to join our Film Society, please print off This Application Form and mention the All About Weybridge website.
