Weybridge Children’s Author Launches New Book Promoting Dog Rescue
Hi, I’m Tira, a new children’s book author from the picturesque town of Weybridge. I’m thrilled to introduce my heartwarming series, The Waggy Dog Tales, starring my three mischievous rescue dogs: Dooey, Keef, and Ronnie.
So, what inspired me? Every time I walk my dogs along the river, people stop to comment on how unique and funny they are. These interactions gave me the opportunity to share one of my passions—dog rescue. I also wanted to encourage my stepchildren to reduce screen time and engage more in reading. What better way to combine both passions than through a storybook featuring our beloved furry family?
What’s the book about?
The first book in the series, The Long Journey, follows Ronnie, a scruffy, lonely pup covered in dirt with teeth that stick out so far, even she can see them. Often overlooked by everyone, no one notices her inner beauty—until she’s rescued by a kind hooman, from the streets of Spain. The story takes readers along on her journey to her new home, where she meets her new brothers, Dooey and Keef. But will they accept this strange-looking newcomer? Full of real-life events and characteristics, this heartwarming and funny story teaches children about kindness, empathy, and dog rescue, while also introducing the importance of rules and boundaries. It’s beautifully illustrated and guaranteed to make readers laugh, learn, and love.
I’m also excited to be partnering with Silverfox Dog Rescue, a wonderful charity that helps foster dogs across the country until they find their forever homes. A portion of the book’s proceeds will go toward supporting their incredible work.
I’ve created two versions of this whimsical story: a picture book for younger children and a chapter book for more advanced readers, ensuring that all ages can enjoy The Waggy Dog Tales. I’m especially looking forward to future local book readings, where children can meet the real-life characters of the story!
