Things To Do In Surrey This Winter
The British weather isn’t always the most inviting at the best of times. But, in winter, it can put a real dampener on even the best-laid plans. Fortunately, we’re used to it, and, as such, there are a lot of activities, venues, and places to go no matter the weather. Whether you want to curl up under a blanket, wrap up and brave the frost, or sample some of the UK’s finest wines, there are winter activities to suit all tastes in Surrey.
Go Online
Sometimes the weather is just too bad, and that’s why we have the Internet. Watch a series on Netflix, read the latest global news, or try your hand at a Bitcoin casino. A BTC casino offers access to traditional casino games and modern slots and features. Many don’t require personal or KYC (Know Your Customer) details to register, which means you can gamble anonymously.
Walk Or Bike The Trails
While some of us would rather hide away indoors when the weather gets a bit chilly, many of us enjoy getting out in the early morning frost. Surrey has a great variety of trails that can be tackled on foot. The Box Hill, Lodge Hill, and Juniper Hill Circular is considered one of the most challenging and you can expect it to take four to five hours but the views and fresh air make it worth every minute.
Go Climbing
Outdoor climbing in winter can be treacherous. But, you can take your climbing efforts indoors. A lot of gyms and indoor leisure centres have climbing walls, but Blue Spider Climbing is a dedicated indoor climbing wall in Guildford that offers climbing courses and sessions for adults and children. Climbing is a great way to get fit, enjoy exercise, and achieve a sense of achievement.
Dorking Christmas Market
Lots of towns and cities across the country hold annual Christmas markets, and Surrey is home to a few of its own. Dorking’s Christmas market is especially popular. It only runs for one day, on 1st December this year, but the beautiful town centre is lit up with Christmas lights while festive music accompanies the artisan stalls and refreshments on offer. And, of course, there is the chance to meet Santa.
Visit Brooklands Museum
Brooklands Museum is a huge motor and aviation museum spread over 32 acres. Brooklands itself was the first purpose-built motor racing track and the museum celebrates that with regular exhibitions as well as permanent heritage and motoring history shows. You can also see heritage motorbikes, planes, and a host of other vehicles that will appeal to petrolheads and historians alike.
Tour Hampton Court Palace
Built for William III and Mary II, Hampton Court Palace was King Henry VIII’s favourite palace. Today, it offers audio and guided tours and also includes children’s trails and access to the Tudor Kitchen. The gardens are incredible, even during the winter months and throughout December, visitors can don some blades and have a go at the outdoor skating rink. There are also celebrations and events throughout the festive period so it is worth checking ahead to see what’s on.
Winter Photo Days
The British Wildlife Centre runs special winter photography days between November and February when the centre gives access to some of the enclosures and animals so visitors can take stunning photos. The centre is also open at weekends throughout the winter, as well as during school holidays, so even if you’re not trying to snap incredible pictures, you can still enjoy the incredible wildlife.
View The Lightbox
The Lightbox, in Woking, is more than just a gallery. In fact, it’s home to three different galleries, each typically offering its own exhibition. There’s also a team room and café, and The Lightbox offers regular drawing classes as well as educational programs for kids and adults making it an ideal venue whether you’re an artist yourself or you just appreciate the work of others.
Try A Glass At Denbies Wine Estate
The UK’s wine scene has dramatically improved over the past couple of decades. Although it still has some way to go before it will rival some of the more prominent winemaking regions, it does have a lot to offer. Denbies Wine Estate, near Dorking, offers a tour of the estate, and it is described as an all-weather tour, so can be enjoyed throughout the winter months as well as the height of summer. There are several restaurants on-site, too, serving great food and wine pairings.
Visit The Big Apple
The Big Apple in Woking is an indoor entertainment venue that is packed with fun things to do for the whole family. From laser quest to soft play, you can find activities that will keep you, the kids, and everybody else in your party entertained. And there’s a café bar for when the entertainment gets a bit too much.
