Hospices Charity Shop, now open in Fairlands Guildford!

There was a queue to get in to the new shop Woking & Sam Beare Hospices shop on Fairlands Estate in Guildford, when it opened its doors for the first time on Thursday 27th October 2016.

This is the 17th hospice shop for the charity and is situated in the heart of the estate and the middle of the shopping parade. The boutique store sells the usual range of high quality donated items, including men and women’s clothing, bric-a-brac, shoes, accessories, books and children’s toys.

Hope the Heart was in attendance on the opening day to greet the first customers who walked through the doors and sweets were given out to all. The till was busy from the moment the doors opened and the shop took a grand total of £522 on its first ever day of trading.

Amanda Flitcroft, Shop Manager said: “We are really pleased to be a part of the local Fairlands community. We took a fantastic amount on our first day and everyone who came in was very welcoming and happy to have us there. We had lots of lovely feedback about the shop and can’t wait for more residents to come in and check it out!”

The day before, Mary Morgan, the Hospices’ resident banana, was promoting her ‘One of Your Five-a-Day’ campaign at the shop, to find more members of the community who would be willing to give some time and help out. It is ideally situated for residents in the area who want to spend a few hours a week volunteering and lots of different people have already signed up. She even got support from local police officers out on the beat!

The shop is still on the lookout for more people to do a shift or two and anyone interested is encouraged to pop in and speak to Amanda to find out what shifts are available, or contact Gary Wood, Volunteer Services Manager on g.wood@wsbhospices.co.uk  or 01483 881750. The banana managed to slip the officers and will be appealing in some other exciting locations in the future, to stimulate more interest in volunteering. So, keep your eyes peeled!
