M&S Renewal of Weybridge Store Complete Following Brand’s £300m Investment Plan
One of the best-known supermarket brands in the UK, with plenty of time before they bank on their big December efforts, M&S has opened its renewed Weybridge store. As part of a huge effort across its brands, M&S have sought to renew 12 stores in the 2025/26 financial year, as well as add 16 new stores and extend another nine. Investing £300 million this year alone, the brand is clearly making a big push into retail.
Also noted on the press release from the high-end supermarket brand was that, by the end of the 2028 financial year, they plan to have 180 full-line stores and a whopping 420 food halls. Clearly seeing the vast appeal of their food goods, some 300 new locations are under consideration to ensure that their 32 million customers can conveniently get to an M&S. However, they’ve also been seen expanding beyond physical stores of late.
Weybridge Gets its Renewed M&S
The grand opening of the new-look M&S in Weybridge unveiled the expansions that have taken off in the local favourite store. M&S Brooklands underwent a vast makeover for its market-style food hall, seeing its size increase by over 30 per cent to 19.8k sq ft. Now, the store can offer even more of the Select Farms products – predominantly the famed seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables.
Also found within the Weybridge location is a new inclusion to the experience. An in-store bakery has been added, as has a coffee counter. So, people who want a barista-made drink and a freshly made treat can just pop in, grab something, and go. Within the sprawling store, there are also new Flower and Wine Shops at the ready, as well as a transformed M&S Coffee Shop with a revamped menu.
An Eye on the Future of Commerce
While the online space has certainly been growing in importance for customers, the percentage of total retail sales that are performed online was only at 27.5 per cent in September 2025, per ONS figures. In-store sales remain the majority in the UK, which helps to explain why M&S continues to lean so heavily into its high-street locations and in-store experiences. However, despite the outdated perception of the brand, M&S also looks to the future.
Their online offering has expanded greatly in recent years, tapping into the convenience of home delivery services like Ocado – which advertises itself heavily on carrying M&S lines – and even exploring new technologies for events. Right now, live streaming is growing as a key point of contact for customers to brands. This follows a rise in the tech being used in entertainment, and that then being infused into retail.
One of the more immersive deployments of live streaming technology that’s helped to raise its profile is in casino gaming. The live casino has expanded into live game shows, owing to the popularity of the live table games. In each, players go online, see the action and the croupier run the game, and bet and possibly win in real time. Live shopping works similarly, with a charismatic host demonstrating, discussing, and selling goods to viewers.
It’s been slowly on the rise in the UK market, but M&S Live ensures that the brand already has a horse in the race should it pick up swiftly. Throughout 2025, M&S put on several live shows, leaning into a host of popular brands with tips for hosting celebrations, style sessions, etc. Even with their expansion in the more traditional realm of sales, M&S is making a concerted effort to be ready for what’s next.
With more M&S Live shows likely in the works for later this year, for now, the local focus is on the new opening and vastly improved offering of M&S Brooklands in Weybridge.
