Creating a beacon of sport for the Borough, the Sports Hub is due to open in September 2017 and will be available for use by local schools and the local community.
Facilities will include 2 full size 3G football pitches (artificial turf), grass junior football pitches, a full 8 lane athletics track to UK Athletics standard, as well as covered spectator seating for over 500 people. There will also be a children’s play area and a dog walking section creating an outdoor community facility in keeping with Elmbridge’s unique and green character on this reclaimed landfill site.

Remediation continues at pace on the Waterside Drive site as we endeavour to have this phase of works completed in early 2017.
In the last few weeks the following works have taken place:
Pavilion
- The ground floor slab was finished being poured and allowed to cure.
Car park
- The commencement of the bulk fill and surfacing works to the car park, along with the ductwork for the street lighting and installation of the kerbs and surface water gullies.
Running track and pitches (3G and grass)
- Completion of the gas venting of the running track.
- Continuation of the remediation to the main 3G and turf pitches
In the next few weeks the following will take place:
Pavilion
- The structural steel frame will be delivered at the end of the month, in preparation for erection.
Car park
- Commencement of the surfacing works to the car park.
Running track and pitches (3G and grass)
- Commencement of gas venting to the turf pitches
- Continuation of the remediation works to the main 3G pitch and commencement of the gas venting.
Main Drainage and Landlord’s Services
- Continue installation of drainage works and landlord’s services
Facilities planned for Elmbridge Sports Hub
The Sports Hub will provide football and athletics facilities as well as a children’s playground and dog walking strip.
Football and athletics facilities will include:
- 2 full size 3G pitch (artificial turf)
- 1 grass training area comprising a full size pitch or the potential for up to four mini pitches
- full 8 lane athletics track to UK Athletics standard
- full field sports facilities
- 4 football changing rooms
- 2 athletics changing rooms
- combined football and athletics club room
- covered spectator seating for over 500
Why Elmbridge needs a Sports Hub
Sporting grounds and clubs in Elmbridge face a number of issues:
- the sports ground at Stompond Lane is in bad need of repair and upgrade to modern standards.
- Walton Athletics Club requires improvement to its facilities.the contaminated land which houses Walton Casuals needs to be remediated.
- The Sports Hub will provide a solution to these issues. It will also create a beacon of sport in Elmbridge which hundreds of young people will benefit from.

- protection from extreme weather so that fewer games will be cancelled
- increase in athletics running lanes from six to eight

- the former landfill site can be dealt with so that the land is brought back into use
Funding of the Sports Hub scheme
The entire scheme will be paid for by the redevelopment of the Stompond Lane Sports Ground.
