Why Weybridge Tops Lists of Surrey’s Most Desirable Towns
Weybridge, though a small town just outside of south-west London, has appeared in multiple national and regional rankings of Britain’s most desirable places to live.
The Telegraph’s January 2026 list, which was compiled with property experts from Savills, placed Weybridge among the UK’s top 20 most desirable towns. Lifestyle guide Muddy Stilettos also included Weybridge among the UK’s top 8 most desirable towns in Surrey.
One report even suggests that Weybridge is “the Beverly Hills of Surrey”. They praised its “leafy” characters, “good” schools, and close access to the M3 and M25.
Surrey’s Most Desirable Towns in 2026
Weybridge appears on both of the most-watched UK rankings this year. Muddy Stilettos’ top 8 Surrey towns for 2026 features Weybridge alongside Haslemere (named overall winner), Farnham, Godalming, Brockham Village, Oxted, East Molesey, and Ripley.
The Telegraph ranking is slightly more special. This ranks the entire UK, not just Surrey. Within this ranking, there are three Elmbridge towns in the top 20. The three mentioned are Cobham, Esher, and Weybridge.
These rankings aren’t based on property prices alone. The Telegraph compiled its 2026 list with Savills using criteria including green spaces, travel links, school quality, residential professions, and the state of residents’ health.
Muddy Stilettos’ approach was slightly different. They focus on local insider knowledge across schools, shops, commutes, culture, and dining. Either way, Weybridge ranked high on both lists, so they are well-diversified in all criteria areas.
Why Weybridge Keeps Standing Out
The first is its location and transport. Weybridge Station offers direct trains to London Waterloo in around 30 minutes, while the M3 and M25 run close by. That combination of commuter access and proper Surrey countryside is rare.
Adding to this, you have the property market and demographics. The average house in Weybridge is currently at £522,000. That’s 139% above the UK national average of £284,000. Detached properties in the area average over £1.2 million.
How the Area Is Facilitating Growth in Resident Numbers
The town’s variety of amenities also supports daily life. This includes everything from riverside walks along the Thames and Wey to boutique high-street shopping and gourmet restaurants, which have boosted resident numbers.
Alongside this, the way it’s being promoted is attracting new residents. With schemes like Stamp Duty Contributions at Brooklands Grove and 5% deposit contributions at Riverside Gardens, it has made it easy for new residents to move here.
The way they’re going about this is similar to many online platforms nowadays that regularly offer promotions and welcome deals, like online entertainment platforms, for example. These often run welcome offers on their flagship products, like bingo and Slingo, to lower the barrier to entry to try their products. It’s no surprise then that we are seeing housing developments in Weybridge adopting similarly marketable promotions.
The Future of Weybridge
Looking ahead, the future of Weybridge is looking positive. The new £20 million NHS health hub at Old Weybridge Hospital is under construction, the library hub is nearing completion, and the Surrey County Council’s town centre road improvements are scheduled for the summer and autumn of 2026.
It’s clear that the local council is investing in the town. This may be because of the local recognition they’ve received this year. Regardless, it looks positive for the town. With such changes, we imagine that they’ll remain among the most desirable towns to live in for a while.
