St James’ School Friends Win Weybridge Sunflower Competition
Children’s (under 10’s) Sunflower Competition Winners Are Awarded Their Prizes
This year’s new competition to grow the tallest sunflower in Weybridge was won by 2 children who are friends at St James’ school. The height of their giant sunflowers were too close to separate, so they were declared joint winners!
Alice O’Neill is pictured above at Weybridge Allotments receiving her prizes from Ian Donaldson & Charu Sood (Weybridge In Bloom) and Lesley Tilling (Weybridge Allotment Holders’ and Gardeners’ Association).
Emily Oreto is pictured with her awards at home, next to some of the giant sunflowers. To see the winning sunflowers at their magnificent best, see the second photo!
About The Sunflower Competition
Weybridge In Bloom & Weybridge Allotment Holders’ and Gardeners’ Association joined together to organise this competition to grow the tallest sunflower in Weybridge!
Children were invited to participate in this new competition in May and collected seeds from the allotment shop and at the Meadow planting event.
Both organisations are keen to encourage the participation of children in the pleasure of growing plants and vegetables and were pleased to have received so many entries, including participation by several schools as well as individuals and families from the allotments association.
These photos show children collecting their seeds from the Allotments stall at the Weybridge In Bloom Meadow planting event earlier this year.
