London has just been crowned UK destination of the year at the UKinbound
Awards and it’s not hard to see why. However, if you are planning on
visiting the capital this year, take time to explore the surrounding
area too.
Transport connections from London make day trips from
the capital easy. Trains can take you to most parts of the south and
east of the country in less than two hours. However, if you have kids in
tow and plan to make full use of the day at your destination you need
locations that you can get to fast.
The cheapest way to holiday
in the UK is in a caravan. Get one of your own with a little help from
Park Resorts. They don’t just run holiday parks, but can help you find
caravans for sale too. Here are three day trips from the capital
that will offer fun for the whole family. |

Brighton
|
|
Brighton is the original seaside resort for Londoners. It has a small
city feel, but big city benefits and its cosmopolitan atmosphere
combined with its beachside reputation has earned it the name of London
by the sea. The journey from London Bridge is less than hour and as soon
as you step off the train you will be greeted with the sound of seagulls
and the smell of fresh sea air. Most people come to Brighton just to
hang out and shop in The Lanes, an area of narrow roads lined with
individual boutiques, second hand stores, art galleries, bars and cafes.
For the kids there is the fair and of course the beach and the whole
family will enjoy a show at the Theatre Royal Brighton. |
Milton Keynes
|
|
If the weather turns nasty, but the kids are bored of museums and you’ve
already been to the Tower of London and Madame Tussauds, jump on the
train and in 30 minutes you’ll be in Milton Keynes. The city itself is
fairly standard and uneventful, but the Xscape centre is anything but.
Inside this giant entertainment space is the Sno!zone indoor real ski
slope, a cinema, bowling rock climbing and indoor skydiving. |
Portsmouth
|
|
In just under an hour and a half you can be in the capital of British
naval history. The Historic Dockyard is home to both HMS Victory and the
Warrior. The Royal Marines Museum and D-Day Museum are also fun for kids
with plenty of hands on exhibits.

Plus the new award-winning Gunwharf Quays development has outlet
shopping, loads of bars and restaurants, a casino, bowling alley and
cinema. The Sealife Centre is not far away either located on the
seafront at Southsea. |
