Hatha Yoga - Gentle - Suitable for beginners &
all ages
The hatha classes emphasize basic
asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques)
and relaxation. Perfect for newcomers to yoga, those
who would like a refresher on the basics or those
who prefer a gentle, slower yoga practice. The
classes are suitable for all ages.
These classes will develop
mobility, flexibility, strength and range of motion
in particular in the spine, shoulder girdle and
pelvic girdle. You don't need to have a flexible
body to start with. All you need is to gently focus
on breathing, releasing, opening, and being flexible
with your mind.
Dynamic/Vinyasa Flow - Vigorous & Challenging!
Vinyasa flow yoga, often called
dynamic yoga, is a form of traditional hatha yoga
and can be quite vigorous and challenging! Vinyasa
sequences link breath to movement in a continuous
flow of postures which are carefully chosen to
detoxify, stretch, and strengthen the body and build
‘prana’ or life force energy. This combination of
breath, movement, and intense focus builds an
internal heat that heals and revitalizes mind, body
and spirit.

The Benefits of Yoga
The physical, mental, and
spiritual benefits of yoga have been known for
centuries. Chronic stress is a major contributing
factor to many of today’s most prevalent diseases.
This is because stress directly affects our
physiology and prolonged periods of stress can be
extremely damaging both mentally and physically.
Yoga has been proven to reduce stress by reversing
its effects and allowing the body and mind to truly
relax. Yoga reduces the physical effects of stress
on the body by lowering the levels of the stress
hormone, cortisol. Related benefits include lowering
blood pressure and heart rate, improving digestion,
lung function and boosting the immune system.
Regularly practising weight
bearing exercise develops strong and healthy bones.
In yoga we work with our own body weight thereby
developing a strong connection to our body and
reducing the risk of developing common bone diseases
such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and bone
cancers.
Other physical benefits of yoga can include:
●
Better posture and
alignment, flexibility, overall strength,
balance and vitality, strengthened immunity,
a toned and supple physique
●
increased mobility and strength in the
spine and the muscles related to it, easing
back pain, detoxification and nourishment of
internal organs which are massaged and
toned, increased energy levels, improved
function of the respiratory, nervous,
digestive, endocrine and circulatory
systems, improvement in sleeping patterns,
lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Mentally and spiritually, the benefits of yoga
can include:
clarity and peace of mind, a
sense of wellbeing, improved concentration and
memory, a reduction in negative emotions such as
anxiety, depression and anger, self-acceptance,
increased self-awareness, a sense of inner peace,
connection and union with yourself and others,
cultivating a non-competitive attitude, letting go
of the ego and accepting, that no one is better than
anyone else. Ultimately, with a regular meditation
practice, realization of the true self.
What Is Yoga
Yoga is a state of mind and way
of life, a discipline and philosophy that originated
in India many thousands of years ago. The word
itself is Sanskrit and means union. It is the oldest
system of personal development known, and works to
unite and achieve the full potential of the body,
mind and spirit. Many people are first drawn to yoga
as a way to keep their body fit and supple and to
relax their mind. Those who delve deeper and
continue with regular practice notice positive
changes in their approach to life, for, through
purifying the body and stilling the mind, an inner
peace can be found.
Although yoga might appear a
series of simple stretching exercises, the ultimate
goal of yoga is to achieve ‘samadhi’, the experience
of oneness and of inner peace. What is commonly
referred to in the western world as ‘yoga’ can be
more accurately described by the Sanskrit word
‘asana’, which refers to the practice of physical
postures that strengthen, purify and heal the body.
Asana is only one of the ‘eight
limbs’ of yoga, the remaining seven are more
concerned with mental and spiritual well being
rather than physical activity. However, many
Westerners find that practising the asanas and
‘pranayama’ (breathing techniques) alone bring about
profound positive changes that counteract the
feelings of disconnection and dissatisfaction in an
increasingly stressful, complex world.
Yoga Teacher - Christina Jones
Yoga-Flow is run by me, Christina
Jones. I hold the Yoga Alliance 200 Hour Teacher
Training qualification, which is recognised
internationally, am a Registered Yoga Teacher
(RYT200) and I am a Level 3 member of the Register
of Exercise Professionals.
I trained as a dancer for nearly
ten years and initially began practising yoga as a
source of relief from lower back pain and anxiety.
Upon finding that the first few classes left me
feeling like I had never done before, I started to
learn more about yoga and attend more classes, and
began to realize and benefit from the life enhancing
gifts the ancient practice has to offer us. My
anxiety became much easier to control, I felt more
relaxed from day to day and the niggling lower back
pain disappeared. I felt calmer and being someone
with a very overactive mind, the fatigue I often
experienced as a result of this became a rarity
rather than an everyday problem.
I felt happier, healthier and
more at one with myself and others. In fact my life
has been so enhanced by yoga that I made the
decision to train as a teacher to be able to share
and enjoy the experience with as many people as
possible.
I teach mainly private classes
(to individuals, small groups and even husbands and
wives) in the homes of my clients. I also teach at
health clubs such as Virgin Active, Holmes Place,
members clubs in west London, spas, and hotels.
Pregnancy Yoga - Classes In Pyrford near Woking Surrey
Yoga is very beneficial to
pregnant women on many levels. It teaches breathing
techniques that will assist and create a sense of
control during childbirth. Learning to breathe more
efficiently encourages more oxygen around the body
and to the baby therefore nourishing mother and
child(ren). The guided relaxations soothe the
nervous system and help with the physical and
emotional demands of pregnancy, childbirth and
motherhood.
Pregnancy yoga is a safe form of
exercise to practice and the gentle posture work
will release tension in the shoulders, ease back
pain, open up the body and strengthen the spine and
encourage the baby into the best position for
labour. The resulting sense of wellbeing and harmony
within mind, body and spirit makes for a calm, happy
and healthy pregnancy.
Pregnancy yoga is believed to
make the birth itself an easier experience as much
of the posture work practised in classes helps to
prepare the body for labour. Yoga can also alleviate
Pelvic Girdle Pain. Much attention is given to
strengthening the pelvic floor, which will speed
recovery after the birth.
Last, but by no means least, the
practice of pregnancy yoga enhances the connection
and essential bond between mother and baby,
nurturing both.
The group classes are held in a
private venue in Pyrford, and will always be very
small ensuring plenty of individual attention.
Alternatively, private classes can be arranged if
you prefer. Please see the testimonials below. For
more info please contact Christina.
