Why Children Love SportsCoach
|
| Our students range from 4-16
years old and each week they enjoy an hour
of a team sport, an hour of an individual sport and an
hour of a team building challenge. Our
sports for the Autumn Term are – Taekwondo,
handball, short tennis, tag rugby, fitness
training and netball. |
Over a year, your child
would enjoy 18 exciting sports and 9 unique
team challenges. Working in a small group of
up to 16 students with supportive
professional coaches, all
of whom have CRB clearance, your children
will gain confidence and their communication
skills and fitness levels will improve. We
have been running hugely successful
sessions from Wimbledon College for 6 years
and have demonstrated just how much value
and enjoyment our students gain from their
weekly sessions. |
When Are SportsCoach Sessions?
|
 |
| Our sessions are at weekends during term
time. Details of days and times for each
Surrey venue are included in the contact
details at the end of this page. |

About
Sports
Coach
|
|
|
|
Aims & Objectives
|
| SportsCoach is committed to
the concept of 'Training for Life' through
encouraging and developing young people of
all abilities in a wide variety of sporting
activities. SportsCoach also aides
children's personal development in areas of
self-confidence, communication skills,
teamwork and an appreciation of how to win
and lose. Importantly, your child does not
need to be sporty to enjoy SportsCoach. |
 |
Structure
|
| SportsCoach is a
division of the hugely successful Stagecoach
Theatre Arts, and is open to pupils aged
4-16 years. Students work in three age
groups, with class sizes capped at 16
pupils. |
Timetable
|
| The weekly
school is for a three-hour period during
which students attend classes in three core
subjects - Traditional Team Sports,
Individual Sports and Team Building
Challenges. The school year is divided into
three academic terms running concurrently
with the normal academic year. In their
first year alone, students will be
introduced to 18 different sports plus
weekly themed Team Building Challenges |
Traditional Team Sports
|
| Traditional sports including
Football, Hockey, Basketball, Kwik Cricket
and Netball are taught in 4-week modules,
along with more unusual sports including
non-contact American Football, Volleyball
and handball. Each week, students will be
taught relevant skills and tactics
culminating in mini competitions and
tournaments. |
Team
Challenges
|
|
|
| SportsCoach has developed a
unique combination of exciting activities to
encourage students to develop their
communication, confidence, leadership and
team skills. |
| Imagine the scenario... your
team has 6 pieces of rope, 4 planks and a
walkie talkie - your mission is to reach the
other side of a 'shark infested river' with
no member of your team touching he water.
One of you is blindfolded, another unable to
hear... Together you must formulate
and agree your plan, assign roles and work
as a team to complete your task |
| The enormous fun of the Team
Challenge masks their great effectiveness in
teaching numerous life skills such as trust,
cooperation, problem solving and listening. |
Individual
Sports
|
| Archery, Fencing,
Badminton, Martial Arts, Short Tennis and
Fitness Training are just some of the
exciting modules that make up this core
area. Through individual Sports, children
experience a very personal sense of
achievement and satisfaction. As with
Traditional Team Sports, there are minor
competitions at the end of each week with a
ore advanced end-of-module tournament in
which all of the skills from the past four
weeks are put into practice. |

Equipment And Facilities
|
| SportsCoach has invested in
premium resources, equipment and venues.
Wherever possible, activities take place
outdoors, but the yearly timetable has been
constructed in such a way that inclement
weather is never a restricting factor. |
Staff And Safety
|
| It is the policy of the
school to only employ experienced teaching
staff. All our staff are professionals and
where necessary, specialist instructors are
used in addition to our highly trained
coaches. All SportsCoach Principals have
First Aid training and are checked by the
Criminal Records Bureau. |
|
|
Uniform
|
| SportsCoach uniform is
inexpensive and only a SportsCoach T-shirt
or polo shirt are compulsory. Students wear
suitable sports clothing in the school
colours of black or dark blue. Jogging
bottoms or shorts and a sweatshirt or hoody
are recommended. Trainers must be worn ay
all times. |
Reports
|
| Twice a year, parents are
given a detailed progress report on their
child's advancement. This is not only to
keep parents updated but also to formally
encourage, motivate and recognise the
efforts of the past few months. |
Sports Day And Demonstration Day
|
| Each school offers two
opportunities a year for family and friends
to experience SportsCoach. Sports Day, on
the last day of the Summer Term, gives both
children and parents the chance to show off
their sporting prowess! In addition, our
Demonstration Day takes the form of a
practical display of class work held every
Autumn term. |
Reward And Recognition
|
|
| Recognition of personal achievement and
effort is of great importance to
SportsCoach. Awards are not based on natural
sporting ability, but on perseverance,
enthusiasm and team work. Certificates are
awarded regularly throughout the year in
certain subjects as well as the prestigious
annual 'Student of The Year' cup. Each
student becomes a member of a house - ours
are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and
Hufflepuff - much more fun than reds and
greens! Every week students can gain points
for their house by performing outstandingly
within their individual abilities. |
