Weybridge Memories Of Peter Fulton
"I came to Weybridge as a young
Australian Engineer on a working
holiday in 1962 to work at Vickers,
and did so for over three very happy
years, married a Weybridge girl at
the
Methodist Church and later set
off across Europe for Australia,
arriving some three months later,
mid '66.
Quite some years later I learnt
that my Great Grandfather had come
from Crondall Hants as a convict for
having stolen a sheep as a farm
labourer in 1832 ,and was
transported to my home of Tasmania.
I worked at Vickers on the VC10,
BAC 111 and Concorde, later becoming
a Postman out of the Weybridge Post
Office..This gave me a good knowlege
of Weybridge, Addlestone, Chertsey
and as far out as Chobham Common for
a late night (8.00pm) pick up from
the letter box outside the
F.V.R.D.E.

I lived for a couple of years
above the Quadrant in the Wey Hotel,
later moving to 2 Holstein Ave, and
another address prior to leaving the
U.K. for home.
In Australia about 1978 we were
asked by an elderly couple a few
doors up if we were the young couple
who had lived at 2 Holstein as they
had lived at 1 Holstein Ave. It
brought back the most wonderful
memories of Weybridge which have
always remained with me as my second
home.
I played Rugby for Vickers
and was loaned to Entertainers
R.F.C.when they were short of
players on a visit to Vickers .
Patrons of Entertainers were
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
After all these years I still keep
in contact with a fellow Postman.
and eagerly try to keep up with news
of my second and very dear home,
Weybridge."
Peter Fulton.
