"The saying that time heals all wounds is
not necessarily true for everyone. Time
is necessary for healing, but time

Counselling - Introduction |
|
I have been counselling for 4 years via
voluntary, charity and private. I’ve also
counselled for separation and relationship
problems and eating disorders. |
|
Any form of counselling or therapy is absolutely
confidential and there is no discrimination on
the basis of race, colour, physical disability,
gender or sexual orientation. |
|
I have counselled the bereaved by suicide. This
is something I have life experience of and is
hard to cope with when you feel no one can
really understand unless they have been there,
so I’m not just a counsellor who has learnt
everything from a textbook, I can empathise with
how you really feel. |
|
"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The
greatest loss is what dies inside us while we
live." |
|
|
|
My Style of Counselling |
|
I wouldn’t say
I have one particular style as my study and
experience is eclectic. I prefer to adapt to my
clients needs as I believe what one approach may
work for one, may not work for another. |
|
However approaches I specialize in are: |
|
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), behavioural,
humanistic (client centred counselling),
integrated, psychodynamic, and many others… |
|
|
I offer counselling face to face,
telephone or online. Please email
if you think you would like counselling in any
of these ways. |
|
What you confide in me is totally confidential,
otherwise the service would be pointless and I’m
accountable to UK law, and work in accordance
with the BACP, BPS, MSFTR and CCC codes of
ethics. |
|
You can tell me about any issue that affects
your emotions, even if you don’t know what is
affecting you or why. I have found online
counselling to be a really good place to start
tackling most things and I will adjust my style
of work to suit you. |
|
I’m trained to say what I think and feel about
your situation and for some this can be painful,
if I ever offend in anyway or you are unhappy
about something, you only ever have to say as
its YOU that is paying for the service. However,
if you only want a counsellor that JUST asks you
if you’re alright all the time, then my service
is not for you, however it would be something I
would start off with to gauge your current
feelings, situation and mood. |

Online Counselling |
|
I offer counselling face to face, telephone
or online. Please email if you think you would
like counselling in any of these ways. Below is
an introduction to the concept of online
counselling. |
|
|
|
I hope that using my online counselling service
is easy for you to use. |
|
√ It's
not free but there's no need to join anything,
no logging in, no passwords and no formal
contract and no need to provide any information
about yourself that you do not wish to. |
|
√ It’s
available worldwide. |
|
Just get in touch, tell me what
you think I need to know about yourself, explain
your problems if any in anyway you feel
comfortable with (make it as long as you like),
pay for the session and I’ll be hired for you in
no time. |
|
√ It’s
a one-time session, so there are no ties, no
commitments unless you wish further
communications, which is entirely up to you. |
|
√ You
can ask for simple advice on any emotional issue
or you can engage me for longer if you have a
more complicated problem. |
|
|
|
Length Of Online Counselling Sessions |
|
Live sessions last for 1 – 1.5 hours (there’s no
strict time limits but please be aware that if
it goes to 1hour 15minutes, I’d have to charge
for the next hour but I will inform you of this
before that time). |
|
|
|
Response Time For Online Counselling |
|
I try to reply to emails inside 3 working days,
but again this depends on the advice required as
some emails are very detailed and may take
further research on my part. |
|
|
|
Online Counselling Alternatives |
|
You can email, or use Yahoo Messenger for chat
or Skype. I will only respond to your Yahoo
messengers if you have paid and arranged a time,
I will not be available for chat at any other
time. |
|

Counselling Techniques & Therapies:
|
|
Here's an overview of some techniques &
therapies I use in my counselling sessions; |
|
● Counselling & Psychotherapy |
|
● Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) |
|
●
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) |
|
|
|
Counselling & Psychotherapy |
|
In today’s society there
are so many stresses and strains that occur for
reasons within or outside our control. These may
be as a result of our past, present or future,
and may include issues relating to family,
money, relationships, expectations, loss, fear,
disorders, illness, work, etc. |
|
As a
result, more and more people are discovering the
benefits of counselling and/or psychotherapy.
Both counselling and psychotherapy offer you a
chance to talk things through, give you the
opportunity to explore the difficulties in your
life, and empower you to make the best decisions
about what to do. |
|
|
|
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) |
Neuro – relates to
the mind Linguistic – relates to language
Programming – the sequence of actions used to
achieve an outcome |
|
Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP) studies the structure of how
humans think and experience the world. It is a
systematic study of human communications. The
structure of NLP is subjective and thus does not
lend itself to precise, statistical formulae.
Instead it leads to models of how these things
work. |
|
People make the best-known choice
they have at any given time. However the more
choices a person has, the better chance they
have of success. Through NLP people can learn to
achieve better choice/change and improve their
personal and/or professional lives. |
|
We
are all different so NLP is whatever works for
you. NLP believes any system of success can be
taught and learnt. |
|
Another, maybe
helpful way of looking at how NLP works is by
using the following theory: |
There is no
such thing as ‘one’ reality. Everyone’s
perception of reality is literally that…a
perception. Everything we feel, hear and see
are all transmitted to the brain and our minds
through responses and nerve receptors as in
touch, through core and optic nerves as in sight
and through channels and canals as in hearing.
|
|
Therefore everything we experience is through
some kind of filter and our brain then
interprets these things based on what we have
already learnt in our lives as in
presuppositions. It’s like tying our shoelaces
everyday…we don’t have to learn it each time as
its there in our minds as something we have
learnt. It’s the same with the way we think, our
language and behaviour as we learn negative
forms of this as well as positive and for some
people this negative learning is natural to them
but destructive |
|
Working on this
principle that our sensors pick up on different
things and learn subconsciously from them we
have to rethink (neuro), communicate differently
(linguistic or language) and act or behave
(programming) differently and NLP teaches us the
techniques to do this. |
|
Some areas in
which NLP can be applied include relationship
difficulties, negotiation and mediation, fears
and phobias, trauma, habits and compulsions,
lack of social skills, difficulty in relaxing,
chronic injury or pain, life planning,
motivation issues, lack of confidence, lack of
assertiveness, unproductive meetings, decision
making, creativity and cognitive problem
solving, time management, etc |
|
|
|
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) |
|
Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on the
concept that changing negative thinking patterns
and behaviours can have a powerful effect on a
person's emotional state. |
|
CBT is a
psychological approach, based on scientific
principles that have shown to be effective for a
wide range of problems with young people,
adults, families & individuals. CBT is also
based on the logic and belief in the power of
the individual to take charge, and to control
and change their negative thoughts, feelings and
actions. |
|
CBT usually focuses on the
“here and now” issues rather than focusing on
things from the past. However past issues are
focused on where necessary. The therapy normally
has three stages: a beginning, a middle and an
end. The process employs a very directive,
action-oriented approach, which teaches a person
to explore, identify and analyse dysfunctional
patterns of thinking and acting. This is
achieved by the client and therapist working
together to identify and understand problems in
terms of the relationship between thoughts,
feelings and behaviour. Once the problems and
counter productive patterns are identified and
analysed a programme of intervention is
established and designed specifically to the
needs of the individual. |
|
The client will
learn to develop alternative and more
constructive viewpoints to tackle their
problems. |
|
Some areas in which CBT is used
for adults, young people, families and
individuals are depression, anxiety, obsessive
compulsive disorder, Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), child conduct
disorder, anger, trauma, phobias, addictions,
eating disorders, PTSD, sleeping disorders,
child abuse, personality disorders, chronic
fatigue syndrome (CFS), etc |
