Thérèse Marthe Françoise Dupré  - Biography

Thérèse Marthe Françoise Dupré was born into a family of artists. Her father, Julien Dupré, one of the most important French realist painters and a leading member of the Barbizon School and her uncle George Laugée, were the main influence in her artistic training.

Like her father, she was a keen observer of French peasant life. She achieved great recognition with her translation of an idealized life in the French countryside. In February 1866 she married Edmond Cotard, a painter himself.

From 1899 she exhibited at every Salon, became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1907 and received a third class medal for her pictorial representation of life in the countryside. Her painting “Dans le clos de la ferme” is hanging in the museum of Nice.
