“The best

THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY |

Broadsides’ hugely ambitious Wars of the Roses is nothing
short of a triumph.” THE DAILY TELEGRAPH |
| “Shakespeare’s
great kings combine and rule in Northern Broadsides’ hit.”
THE SUNDAY TIMES |
| “Broadsides has
pulled off a triumph: this is thrilling theatre” METRO |
| “The ensemble is
the thing… the sheer dedication and drive of the company
takes your breath away, pushing you to your feet come
curtain call.” THE DAILY TELEGRAPH |
| “Utterly compelling
in its scope and character, unrelenting in its dramatic
power, it is nothing less than a triumph.” THE STAGE |
|
|
Fuelled by an explosive plot and undeniable human passion,
this gripping theatrical adaptation charts one of the
bloodiest episodes in Britain’s history in a spectacular
saga of politics, power games, betrayals, bloody battles and
anarchy. With an international reputation for producing
outstanding Shakespeare productions, Northern Broadsides’
vigorous performance style and thrilling story telling are a
perfect match for the sheer momentum and energy of this
outstanding trilogy of plays charting the descent of Britain
into civil war and its eventual salvation. |
Henry VI
Young Henry is crowned in his first flush of youth. Hostile
factions erupt across the land and treachery abounds.
Inexperienced and dominated by an ambitious Queen, Henry’s
authority is weakened whilst York plots his succession to
the throne. Bloodshed is inevitable. |
Edward IV
Henry faces a nightmare rebellion and is rendered powerless.
York challenges his claim to the throne and civil war
erupts. Fathers kill sons and sons kill fathers. The House
of York prevails and Edward is crowned. In his shadow a
brother lurks who will kill all to become King. |
Richard III
Richard longs for the crown. Ruthless to the core, he
schemes, manipulates and murders his way to the throne of
England – eliminating every obstacle in his way. A reign of
terror follows until defeat at the battle of Bosworth
signals the start of the mighty Tudor reign. |

''An irreverent comedy.
Unexpectedly timely and thought-provoking'' - New York Times |
|
 |
|
Exploding cigars, shoes full of poison
– is it a script for the Marx brothers or a ludicrous plot
by a superpower? |
|
It is an open secret that the CIA
spent years hatching plots to remove Fidel Castro from power
in Cuba. Less well known were the suggested schemes to stick
an explosive in one of Castro’s famous cigars or to poison
his shoes with botulism toxin! |
|
In the run-up to Castro’s visit to the
UN in 1960 we are taken to CIA secret headquarters to watch
four bumbling officials hatch the conspiracy of the decade
only for it to go wrong in the most disastrous and hilarious
ways. |
|
Dubbed ‘the play the CIA does not want
you to see’ this new comedy by British writer Brian Stewart
(from TV’s The Office) has enjoyed critical acclaim in the
US. |

“Sublime… thrilling… will switch many people on to
Milton for life”
THE DAILY
TELEGRAPH |
“Ben Power’s version makes voluptuous sense… juicy
and decadent”
THE
OBSERVER |
|
 |
Defeated in battle and exiled from heaven, Satan burns in a
lake of fire with his army of rebels around him. Consumed
with envy, he plots his bitter revenge – to destroy God’s
delight in his newest creation. During his hunt for Paradise
on Earth, Satan sweet-talks his way out of hell and tricks
his way across the universe to tempt Eve and seduce
humanity.
Paradise Lost, the greatest epic poem in the English
language, is a richly theatrical vision of the ‘Fall of
Mankind’. As exhilarating as it is profound, Milton’s
extraordinary masterpiece is brought to life in Rupert
Goold’s ambitious production which played to record
audiences and huge acclaim when it was first presented in
2004. |
|
"Sensually ravishing... a stunning
achievement
FOUR
STARS" THE TIMES |
|
"In Paradise Lost, the fall of Man
is brilliantly imagined in a sensational physical touring
production, led by Jasper Britton’s Satan, with Christian
Bradley and Vinette Robinson shedding their clothes and
inhibitions as Adam and Eve"
SUNDAY

Due to the nature of
the material, Paradise Lost contains scenes

“Vintage Noel Coward… the

THE MAIL
ON SUNDAY |
|
“It is a truly great comedy
and one of the best ever written about the theatre”
THE
OBSERVER |
|
“One of the last flashes of
Coward’s greatness… really sophisticated”
THE SUNDAY
TIMES |
|
“One of Coward’s most
quotable, most humane and certainly most funny plays”
DAILY MAIL |
|
|
One of his
finest and funniest comedies, Noël Coward admitted that he
wrote the role of egotistical charmer Garry Essendine in
Present Laughter as a vehicle for his own talent. Set
in the glamorous world of the theatre during the Jazz Age,
it is a marvellously comic exaggeration of the life that
whirled around Coward in his heyday. |
|
Flamboyantly
dressing-gowned and devastatingly handsome, Garry Essendine
may be teetering reluctantly towards middle age but
everyone, both male and female, is infatuated by him. |
|
The master of
scalpel-sharp repartee, ruthless put-downs and spectacular
tantrums, his life is one long performance in which he can
never be himself. About to set off on an extended tour of
Africa, Essendine is visited by practically everyone he
knows including his ex-wife/manager, lawyer, secretary,
butler, business partners, an admiring young playwright and
a recent one-night stand! The stage is set for a battle of
glittering egos. |
