Learn to Program using Lego Mindstorms Robots

Use the latest EV3 Mindstorms kits to complete a number of exciting challenges, including an obstacle course, pattern drawing, solving a real 3D maze and even taking on other robots in a game of autonomous football!
Underpinning all the fun is a serious programming course that, while assuming no prior knowledge, will equip each child with a solid grasp of the fundamental building blocks of any programming language. Furthermore, it will teach them how to plan and design software through the discipline of computational thinking, reinforcing and building on the new computing curriculum.

Course Feedback from Kids & Parents:
“My son was absolutely blown away by this course. I have never seen him so enthusiastic; he didn't want to leave and came home to do more programming!! He learnt so much and loved every minute. I would highly recommend the course!”
“The instructors were really kind and taught me a lot. They made me feel comfortable even though it was my first experience of programming and helped me and the group discover our own solutions to problems”
“With expert guidance, my son learnt a brand new skill whilst also being taught valuable lessons of teamwork and perseverance”

Marriage Of Figaro Athenaeum Opera Comes To Elmbridge For One Night Only at Theatre at American Community School (ACS), Portsmouth Road, Cobham Surrey

Opera - Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)
One of Mozart's best-loved masterpieces, the Marriage of Figaro is a comic opera guaranteed to have you humming its themes for days after the performance!
This production is abridged, sung in Italian but with English narration throughout so that the songs you know and love are performed in the original language, but everyone will understand what is going on throughout.
Originally staged for a sold-out week of performances at the Athenaeum (London), the company are bringing Figaro to Elmbridge for one performance only.

All Proceeds Going To The Mayor Of Elmbridge's Charities.
This special event is being held in aid of this year's two Mayor's charities, Elmbridge Community Link and CHEER. The production was performed at the prestigious Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall a few months ago. It played to a packed audience over three nights – it had rave reviews and the company have been invited back to perform in the future.
The performance will commence at 7 30pm and there will be an interval for a glass of prosecco (included in the ticket price). Doors will open at 6pm for those who would like to bring a picnic…a la Glyndebourne! The grounds are beautiful but, if it rains, we will be able to eat indoors (fingers crossed for a lovely, sunny and warm evening!).

The Rector and Churchwardens warmly invite you to the Private View of the inaugural exhibition by Claire Reed, Weybridge Artist-in-Residence.

Claire will be presenting a contemplative site-specific installation exploring the fluid nature of belonging in the context of change. The work not only emerges from Claire's experience as 'the new girl on the block' - looking with fresh eyes at an unfamiliar environment, people, symbolism and traditions - but also the precious interaction with many people from the Church and across the local community.
'Vocal', Claire's 3 channel audio piece, will be heard within the church building amidst a series of interrelated 3D work and works on paper. The community art project 'Inside Out' will be on display in the Church garden.

Stalls, Displays, Carriage Rides, Raffle, Cream Teas, BBQ and more!
The Village Fayre
A poem by Cynthia Stewart, Village Resident 1994–2009

The stalls are in place for the annual fete,
The Village Green is a-bustle and stir,
For today is a really important date
in the village of Whiteley calendar year.

We've been preparing for many a week,
Cutting and sewing, and are storing away things
And now is the time when that hard work should peak .
(Come see what cajoling and industry brings!)

Today we've worked hard from the first crack o’ dawn
Raising stalls, unpacking those goods held in store
To set out in marquees across the lawn
All those fine items collected, such gadgets galore.

There'll be bands, carriage rides, and luscious cream teas,
With lots of diversion for big and for small ;
Displays of team dancing, all costumed to please
On the green, in the club, and in our fine hall

Roll up …come, roll up for we all will be there,
Come share in the revels, win a prize or two;
And it only the weather stays sunny and fair,
We’ll guarantee you are right wonderful “do”!

MUSIC on the GREEN is based at Christ Church Esher directly opposite and overlooking Esher Green. Its aims are to promote a wide variety of excellent music, to present music in a fresh and engaging way, and to encourage audiences from Esher and beyond.
Our concerts take place in Christ Church at the heart of Esher - a church which boasts an outstanding pipe organ, fine grand piano acquired in 2012 with a very generous loan, and good acoustics which all contribute to making our music so enjoyable.
MUSIC on the GREEN is about making music which is accessible to, and enjoyable by, as many people as possible without it being stuffy or cheapened. This is the reason for the MUSIC on the GREEN ‘brand’ – to give the music an identity of its own.
Music is about people, emotions, history… We blend all these ingredients and seek to present our music in interesting and rewarding ways, within its own context so that it can be widely appreciated and enjoyed.

The Usual Suspects are an experienced rock pop outfit playing classic covers from the likes of Tom Petty, Fleetwood mac, Steely Dan, Bad Company and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Tony's original songs that have instant hook and appeal, with a touch of rock, pop, blues and country.
All band members have gigged and recorded in many bands over the years and have formed this band to entertain and share the music.

And don’t worry about whether you are ‘good enough’. We have enjoyed some high quality performances, but it’s also a welcoming place for those having a go for the first time or getting back into it after a long gap. All musical styles are welcome as well.
Equipment: PA, two mics and stands, guitar and bass amp provided for open mic session - if you need anything else you will need to bring it and do any setting up required as early as possible.
Headline Act Opportunities: If you are interested in being the headline band/act, do get in touch. No requirement to share equipment and PA will be provided.

Firstly, sit behind the driver of the Napier-Railton as we take you back to the 1930s for a race around the banked circuit taking in the pits, and motoring sheds before heading out onto the track and challenging two other pre-war racing cars.
Next, join the RAF Red Arrows as you sit in the cockpit as one of their display team as they embark on one of their breath-taking aerobatic routines.
Finally, let us take you back to 1956 as British racing legend Mike Hawthorn takes you for a lap at Le Mans in his Jaguar D-Type. this is the actual film and commentary made by Mike and is so realistic, you will think you were there.

Pedal Planes and Cars
Pedal power is the name of the game here as young budding drivers and pilots can try out our superbly built aircraft and vehicles. A mini circuit has been reserved near the Shell Pagoda for youngsters under the watchful eyes of the Brooklands Stewards. Maximum speed limit applies!

Bertie Bear
Bertie Bear is the Brooklands larger-than-life mascot who likes to roam the site to meet his fans every weekday during the summer holidays. You can’t miss him so if you see him, do go and say hello.  Bertie Bear - Mascot fun for Kids at Brooklands Museum Weybridge Surrey

See, hear and feel Concorde blast along the runway, soar into the sky and accelerate to Mach 2 - twice the speed of sound. Re-live the excitement of the supersonic age in this fascinating 35-minute Concorde ‘flight’ evoking emotional memories.

Chertsey Museum Surrey Exhibition - Fashion - Runnymede To celebrate this important anniversary, our current fashion display features fashionable women’s wear dating from the 1960s to the present days selected from the Olive Matthews Collection.
< Evening gown of purple and green shot silk by Jean-Louis Scherrer, mid 1980s. Photograph by John Chase
The display takes visitors on a journey from the tight waists and full skirts of the early 1960s right through to the darkly imaginative designs of Alexander McQueen in the 2000s.
On the way it is possible to explore the futuristic styles of the mid-‘60s, the flowing skirts of the hippie era and power dressing from the 1980s.

Assiduous collecting of key designers’ work from the second half of the 20th century has been undertaken in recent years by the Olive Matthews Collection trustees.
This means we have been able to include important pieces by André Courrèges, Thierry Mugler, Jean-Louis Scherrer, Ossie Clark and Issey Miyake to name but a few.

Take a beautiful walk around Painshill.

Painshill Park "One of the finest 18th century landscape parks in Europe.."
The Gothic Temple is a 'folly' in the great tradition of English landscape gardens.
It is just one of several in the park, but arguably the most idyllically placed.

Introduce your baby to songs, rhymes
and books at your library!
Weybridge Library - Fun for the children
Library rhymetime sessions are aimed at babies and toddlers, aged under 5, along with their parents and carers. The events are based entirely on sharing nursery rhymes, action songs and percussion music. It is fun, interactive and noisy!
Nursery rhymes are great for language development - they have a lot of rhythm which catch baby’s attention, and repetition, which is good for speech development. It is also a nice way of introducing babies and toddlers to their local library!
Rhymetimes start with finger rhymes and action songs. Percussion instruments accompany the rhythmic songs and the sessions end with some closing songs.
Tickets are free and must be booked in person by coming into the library between Sunday and Wednesday for the Thursday Rhymetimes.
For Saturday Rhyme sessions, you can book your place by coming into the library in person any time from the Saturday before. We look forward to seeing you there.
