never sung before, but have a burning desire to
sing - you're welcome!
New members - experienced or
not, are always welcome. We do not audition - so
just complete the registration form - and turn
up at our rehearsals - We can assure you of a

Elmbridge Ladies Choir
Elmbridge Ladies Choir is a
new Choir run by Elmbridge Choir, due to the
huge waiting list of people wanting to join. The
Ladies Choir now has approx 66 members, in
addition to the 130 members singing in the mixed
choir. The Ladies Choir holds its own concerts
(commencing with the 19th July 2009 concert at
Molesey Regatta) and also joint concerts with
the mixed choir (including
September at Painshill Park Cobham and the
Christmas 2009
Concert at Leatherhead Theatre).
This is a 10-minute video made by the newly
formed Elmbridge Ladies Choir for their entry
into the "Good Housekeeping - Choir of the
Year Competition". When filmed, the ladies had been
together for 4 months and fun is what it's all
about. The choir has no auditions and
everyone is welcome to join regardless of their
musical ability.

Charities Supported by Elmbridge Choir Concerts
Would you like the
Elmbridge Choir to sing for you and help your
charity or deserving cause raise funds? Our mission is to
bring people together from all walks of life who
all share the same passion - singing - and to
use our talent to help deserving causes to raise
funds.
Charities supported by our concerts & events include
Shooting Star Children's Hospices (Hampton Hill
Middlesex), The Foundation for the Study of
Infant Death (FSID) and Walton Blind Society,
Royal Hospital For Neuro-Disabilty (Putney),
Oasis (Working with vulnerable children and
their families throughout Elmbridge), The Elmbridge Mayor's Charity Appeal (Walton
Firs Cobham). Other charities are also supported
by Elmbridge Choir.
The Foundation
for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) is the
UK's leading baby charity working to prevent
sudden deaths and promote health.
The Shooting Star Children’s
Hospice is a very special place – a home from
home for families who find themselves in truly
unimaginable circum-stances.
Walton Firs campsite in Surrey has been
developed for young people for over 65 years.
With 28 acres of camping ground and activities
including archery, rifle shooting, climbing,
abseiling and orienteering it really is an
exceptional campsite, facilitating 25,000
camping nights per year.
FSID funds
research, supports bereaved families and
promotes safe baby care advice.
The hospice provides
essential care and support for children & young
people with life-limiting conditions and their
families, free of charge, 365 days a year.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign supports the
work of The Royal Marsden, raising money to help
the hospital stay at the leading edge of cancer
treatment and care.
With your help we can continue to provide the
40,000 patients we see each year with the
facilities, treatment and care that can help
them beat cancer. By supporting our appeals you
are making a real difference to everyone who
walks though our doors.
Combat Stress, established in 1919, is a charity
providing specialist psychological support and
treatment to Veterans of wars, peacekeeping
missions and emergency relief operations who
have been traumatised by the harrowing events
they have been through during their Service
For many who are affected, the problems may
take years, perhaps decades to surface.
The Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, Combat
Stress, exists to serve these men and women.
Force's children's Trust, established in 2004,
is a charity devoted to helping children in need
whose father or mother has died, or been
seriously injured, whilst serving as a member of
the British Armed Forces. The charity was
established following the many heart-breaking
stories that emerged from the losses in
Afghanistan and Iraq, in an effort to fill a gap
in the charitable field of family care.
Working with vulnerable children and their
families throughout Elmbridge
Oasis believes every child has a right to
security, love and a stable environment in which
they can develop their full potential.
It was the recognition that this was an
impossible ideal in a great number of families
that led to the formation of Oasis in 1996 to
work throughout the Borough of Elmbridge.
The stress and pressures of modern society
always affect those least able to cope, those in
critically dysfunctional family situations, some
single parents, those with alcoholic and/or drug
dependencies and those in severe financial
hardship.
The helpless victims of all this pressure have
always been children, the people with the least
resistance to emotional confusion, stress and
pain.

Woking Hospice & Sam Beare Hospice Weybridge
Woking Hospice was opened in 1996 to provide
palliative care & support for patients & their
families living in central Surrey. The
Hospice is situated in Hill View Road on the
edge of the town of Woking Surrey. Based in
Weybridge Hospital, the Sam Beare Hospice
re-opened in 2006 under the management of Woking
Hospice and provides palliative care and support
to the residents of North Surrey.
The Woking & Sam Beare Hospices respond to the
needs of each individual, helping people achieve
the best possible quality of life. Hospice care
is based on the belief that each person is more
than their illness, and that each of us has
unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual
needs.
Our Musical Director,
Cliff Van Tonder, who established the Elmbridge
Choir in September 2005, believes that a good balance of
music is necessary and the repertoire of the
Elmbridge Choir consist of various works across
the choral spectrum from Jazz to Pop, from West
End Musicals to African melodies and much more.
Our music is sure to
keep your audience humming to our tunes long
after the concert.
We have over 130 choir
members in the mixed choir and in June 2009 our
Ladies choir had grown to 65 members within a
short time of being formed. We use pre-recorded CD’s as backing
music.
In December 2008
Elmbridge Choir we went to Prague, Capital
of the Czech Republic, to sing in the Old Town
Square, participating in an
International Choral Festival, together with
Choirs from around the World including Austria,
Finland, Norway and Germany. The Choir's
Christmas Party was held in Prague on a river
boat trip.

The Old Town Square Prague
One of
the great joys is that while enjoying ourselves
singing, we are fortunate to be able to help
many local charities and create a great
community feeling. A remarkable story from our
June 2009 concert at the Royal Hospital For
Neuro-Disabilty is that a man who had been
totally wheelchair-bound since the car crash
which disabled him, stood up for the first time
in 5 years for our encore!
We have
raised in excess of £38,000 for charities in the
4 years since the choir was formed and this
looks like it will grow significantly as the
membership numbers swell.
