Juniors
Juniors are either
under 11yrs or "General" group which
covers up to Senior groups.
Under 11 Group
Walton AC
take on junior athletes from the age of 9 (school year 4).
This age group, school years 4-6 meet at the track on Sunday
mornings from 09.45 to 11.00.
A typical
session consists of: a couple of slow laps around the track;
10 minutes stretching (as a group); 10 minutes doing drills;
and depending upon how many qualified coaches are there, 45
minutes practicing a specific athletics event (e.g. if there
were 3 coaches there, then the athletes get a choice to join
in, say, a long jump group, javelin group, or hurdles group.)
Athletes are strongly encouraged to try all events throughout
their time with this age group rather than just doing the
events they know they're good at. This set up continues
throughout the year - we go indoors to the Clubhouse if the
weather is bad.
On the
first Sunday of each month during the winter (Oct - Mar) we
have a go at Cross Country running.
We are not looking for super athletes at this age (or indeed
any age). We are looking for children who are willing to give
it a go, not frightened to put effort into learning new skills
and are willing to learn. Membership is £30 per year, but we
don't ask for that until after the athlete has been there a
couple of times and know that they want to continue.

School
Years 7-10 (General Group)
This
group meets at the track on Sunday mornings at 10.30 and train
until 12.00. They also meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
