The Class of 46 |
Recent reunions of St James C
of E School Weybridge have been such a success, that everyone
attending has asked for it to become an annual event. The first was
held about 20 years ago when Maureen Amato (nee Eve) and Sheila
Tribe (nee Tilbury) organised the event to surprise their friend
Mavis Higgins who was coming over from America.
In 2003 another one was held with a small
group attending and it was so enjoyable that a special effort was
made to contact as many people as possible for the 2004 reunion.
That was a great success with approximately 120 ex-pupils attending
to reminisce and a lot of fun was had by all, especially trying to
guess who was who!
Former classmates and friend came from all parts of the UK and from
the USA and New Zealand.

2004 Reunion - Over 120 Friends
gathered to share memories |
Mrs Beal, a former teacher
from the school who was Miss Hayward at the time, attended. She
amazed everyone by correctly knowing who they all were by hearing
their voices, which is remarkable considering she taught them over
50 years ago and how different everyone now looks. Mrs Beale was so
fond of the children she taught, that she has kept in touch with
many of them and the feelings were reciprocated with a presentation
of flowers to Mrs Beal.

There is a modest contribution
of £3 to cover the costs such as hall hire with any surplus going to
local charities. In 2003 £105 was gifted to the White Lodge Centre
for disabled children and adults (Chertsey). In 2004 the beneficiaries were the
Friends of Weybridge Hospital.
Many people bring along photos from the past
for others to enjoy so if you're attending this year maybe you have
some you can bring along?

Weybridge Memories
If you have any old photos of Weybridge, not just of the
school, maybe you could e-mail a copy to the all about Weybridge
website and we will publish many of them for others in the community
to enjoy? In particular old pictures are becoming more and more
scarce, so it would be nice to 'rescue them' and share them with
others on the internet.
For example, reunion organiser Maureen Amato has provided some
lovely photos of the
Pelican Lane
Outings, the
Poets Corner Dancing Troop
Pelican Lane Street Parties and the
Weybridge Netball Team that you can see on this
site. |
